COMPLAINTS & GRIEVANCES

Ricketts Great Books College provides a fair, accessible, and prompt way to resolve student complaints and grievances — academic, administrative, or conduct-related — in all delivery modalities.

No retaliation; confidentiality

Retaliation against anyone who files a complaint or takes part in a review is prohibited. Complaints are handled as confidentially as practicable, shared only with those who need to know to resolve the matter.

How to file

Submit a complaint through the College’s complaint form or by email to the Dean of Faculty. If the complaint concerns the Dean of Faculty, send it to the Provost or the CEO. Include your name and contact information; a description of the issue; relevant dates, individuals, and witnesses; any steps already taken; and the remedy you are seeking. Attach supporting documents when available.

Informal resolution (optional)

When appropriate and safe, you are encouraged — but not required — to first raise the issue with the person involved. Informal resolution is not expected in matters involving harassment, discrimination, or safety.

Formal procedure and timelines

  • Acknowledgment: the College acknowledges your complaint within five (5) business days and identifies who will handle it.
  • Investigation: an impartial reviewer gathers information; everyone involved has a chance to be heard and to respond to the evidence.
  • Decision: the College aims to issue a written decision within thirty (30) calendar days. Complex cases may take longer, with periodic updates and a revised target date.

Appeals

You may appeal a decision within ten (10) business days on one or more grounds: a procedural error that affected the outcome, new evidence not reasonably available earlier, or an outcome disproportionate to the findings. An appeals officer or committee not involved in the original decision issues a written determination within twenty (20) business days.

External options

The College encourages resolution through its own process, but you may also contact the state authorizing agency. In Nebraska, the College’s home state:

  • Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE). Student Complaint Form: ccpe.nebraska.gov/student-complaint-form
  • Mail: CCPE, ATTN: Complaints, P.O. Box 95005, Lincoln, NE 68509-5005. Phone: (402) 471-2847.

Students authorized in other states may contact their home-state authorizing agency. The College maintains a current directory of state complaint portals in the Student Handbook and on this website.

Records

The College keeps a complete file for each complaint — intake, correspondence, evidence, decision, and any appeal — for at least five years, and reviews complaint trends to improve its policies and services.
