Modality and time to completion

All instruction is delivered by distance, in live, synchronous Socratic seminars over Zoom. The Associate of Liberal Arts is normally completed in two years of full-time study; the Bachelor of Liberal Arts in four years. Part-time pacing is available by individual plan. There are no in-residence requirements; the program is fully online.

Program outcomes

Graduates, at the level appropriate to their credential, will be able to:

• Close reading and textual analysis — interpret primary texts across genres and eras and support interpretations with textual evidence.
• Socratic dialogue and oral communication — contribute to live seminars through questioning, evidence-based discussion, and respectful refutation.
• Argumentation and academic writing — produce logically organized, thesis-driven essays that engage counterarguments and cite sources responsibly.
• Historical and cultural context — situate works within historical movements and cultural frameworks.
• Philosophical and ethical reasoning — analyze and evaluate arguments and apply ethical frameworks to enduring and contemporary questions.
• Quantitative and scientific reasoning — apply mathematical reasoning and the scientific method; interpret quantitative or empirical claims.
• Information literacy and research — locate, evaluate, and integrate scholarly sources with appropriate citation.
• Civic and constitutional literacy — analyze founding documents and political theories and articulate their implications for liberty, law, and the common good.

The Associate develops these outcomes to a practiced level; the Bachelor brings them to mastery through advanced seminars and a senior essay and oral colloquium. Full course requirements and credit totals are in the Academic Catalog.
